Another cute family photo from the dog park. We can't wait to see how much little Tuck has grown when we photograph him again in the Spring for their Iowa City part of their session.



I love Jessie's expression in this. You can tell how much she loves Scott in this one.


This one was taken in Valley Junction at a nice shop. Another cute, snuggly one of them. I love how relaxed Scott and Jessie are with each other.

You'll probably remember a couple of months ago that we posted a sneak preview from Jessie and Scott's Fall Story of our Love session. With all the busyness with the holidays, we didn't get a chance to meet with them until last weekend so here are some of the best from their session. Scott and Jessie love drinking coffee together so this was taken in a coffee shop. I love the expressions of them gazing at each other.


Here's a photo of Jessie with Tuck and Callie while Scott went to fetch another collar for Callie. It was snowing while we were at the dog park but you'd never know it was that cold by the expression on Jessie's face.


I love this one.

Here is Scott and Jessie's favorite photo of the day because it shows their family. They decided when they announce their engagements in the papers that they're going to use this one. We have a dog named Buddy so we love sharing cute pet stories with them.

Our lab is having a sale on their canvases and we're passing the savings on to you. We will be having a 20% off sale on all canvas prints until Oct. 29th. Canvases are a very soft looking, elegant, one-of-a-kind way to display your portrait in your home. We photographed Ashlyn's Senior portraits a couple of months ago. We had posted a slideshow of some of our favorites but wanted to share some more.



This portrait shows some of things Ashlyn loves best. She likes collecting Converse shoes and enjoys making word collages in her free time. Her word collage was so cool to look at and it is just such a fun way that she expresses herself.


I had had this idea for Ashlyn's session for her to wear a really elegant dress against an urban, edgy background. Two things you don't expect to see together. Ashlyn loved the idea and we had fun with it. I like how her dress and the door complement each other with their colors. I think she looks like a model in this portrait.



I like how she looks like such a powerful woman in this portrait. Kevin did a wonderful job with the lighting on this one.



This is a new product we just started offering this year for Seniors. Seniors can get wallets with their autograph on them to pass out to their friends.



Ashlyn had chosen our top Senior session, the Luxe Life, which includes several different settings for the on-location part of her session. I think this alley turned out to be Ashlyn, Kevin and mine's favorite location of all. The moody alley suites our photography style well. For part of the session, I took Ashlyn up on this fire escape which was great. After we walked off of it, I felt bad because she had been wearing heels, but Ashlyn is such a good sport and was up for doing anything in the name of good photos!

In July, Kevin and I went to the state of Washington to visit some of his family. While we were there, we were able to take Chris, Christy and Drew's family portraits. We photographed them at a beautiful beach in Camano Island. It's always nice when we can relax and have fun on vacation and also take some nice portraits.


Here is Chris and Drew throwing rocks into the ocean. I love the one on the right where the rock is frozen in the air. Drew probably could've done this for hours. Maybe he's training to be a future quarterback someday!

A couple of months ago, we went to the Omaha zoo with this family to photograph their family session. We had so much with them! We loved how it felt like they were spending the day as a family and we were just there to follow along. It was fun to see all the different sides of the kids' personalities. Josie, who's 2, is adorable and I'm sure will be breaking a lot of hearts someday. Luke and Leighton kept us laughing. And the oldest, Brooklyn, is such a great big sister. Kevin and I were worn out by the end of the session (as you can imagine, when you're trying to photograph 4 children) but we were happy with how we were able to capture this family.
This is one of my favorites of the day. I love how it shows the precious love of a mother and daughter.

Leighton's child-like amazement of the carousel is so sweet.


We entered this one of Josie in a photography contest a couple of months ago. We called it "It's for you!"

The kids found this old train car to play in. The rust made for a great background.



We had to get a nice one of Lynn and Janelle too. The Henry Dooley Zoo has a couple of waterfalls so we had some nice backgrounds that looked very un-Midwestern for our portraits.

We photographed Doug and Molly's wedding this June. Doug and Molly met in junior high and started dating while attending Iowa State University together. Their wedding was held at the church in Ames that they had attended while in college.

We had been looking forward to photographing Doug and Molly's wedding for a while because we've had so much fun getting to know them this year through their engagement portrait sessions (You can see their other photographs here and here). They are easy-going, fun, and affectionate - every time we're around them, we can tell how much they love each other and that these two were destined to united.


This was a unique wedding because I had more time to create portraits of the bride by herself than I usually do before the ceremony. This is one of the portraits I was able to create during that time. Despite the stress of the day, Molly looked elegant, poised and comfortable - like she belonged in a bridal magazine.

This location was meaningful to Molly because her sister had a similar portrait created in the same place in the church - just at the top of one of the front staircases.

Kevin and I both enjoyed photographing this church for all the beautiful architectural details such as the trim work you can see on the walls behind her in this portrait. More importantly was the large, beautiful windows letting in the Heavenly light around Molly.

Kevin created this image of Doug outside the church before the ceremony and, again, you see the same relaxed expression that Molly had in her portraits. This portrait describes Doug well- easy going, funny, nice guy - you can see all that reflected in his expression. (Considering all the groomsmen were gathered around harassing him while he was posing and with a busy college-town street with waving, honking traffic in front of him, Doug was able to keep focused on the portraits.

Sunday, I went to my good friend Jenny's baby shower. Last year around this time, Kevin and I and 3 other couples from our church (including Jenny and her husband) were on a missions trip in South Africa. We all went there to help build a flat at an orphanage called Pines Christian Academy which reaches out to children who have lost their parents or caregivers to AIDS. We had an amazing experience there and the children who lived at the Pines and all the people we met changed our lives and perspectives forever. This year, Jenny and Tiffany (another girl from the trip) are both pregnant with their first child , are a few weeks apart in their due dates, and both are expecting boys. It's fun to see how much has changed in a year!

Jenny received lots of fun gifts including a pair of baby Crocs. I decided to go with the theme of Africa with my gifts to Jenny and bought her a cute lion t-shirt, an airplane sleeper, and an elephant baby book. Jenny and her husband, Kris, love Africa so much that they decided to go with a theme of giraffes for their baby's nursery.

I know this is long overdue but here it is, our favorites of 2007. It was difficult to narrow down to just a handful, but we managed.

2007 was a great year for us and our wonderful, fun and creative clients made it enjoyable. We love it when our clients' ideas combine with our ideas and together we are able to create artistic portraits that truly reflect their personalities.

We'd like to thank all of our clients for being so incredible and we appreciate all of you so much. Kevin and I are also looking forward to the future clients we'll have this year and how we'll be able to create custom art for their homes.

We are also very excited about 2008 - we will be introducing several new products that we think our clients will enjoy (more on that to come).

A few weeks ago, we captured Boston's 2 year old portraits. We suspect he will be a sports star someday with his love for being active and having fun. He has this adorable smile that is very contagious and makes those around him smile too. We were laughing and smiling the whole day. He loves trains so we took him to the Iowa State Fairgrounds to play on on a wooden train shaped play equipment. Every time a real train would go by, he would stop what he was doing and make a train whistle sound. It was very cute. Lindsay and Monte, thanks for allowing us to take Boston's portraits and we look forward to seeing him grow up.

We captured Doug and Molly's engagement session at 2 locations, The Rose Garden in Des Moines and Iowa State University. They ended up receiving a nice mix of summer and fall portraits. Doug and Molly had met while in college at ISU so we were glad to go to a location that is important to them. We even went to the location on campus that Doug had proposed to Molly. Molly and Doug are a really fun couple and have been such a joy to work with. They are very tender with each other but also very playful. What we love about these portraits is you can tell how deeply they love and appreciate each other. Some of our favorites at ISU were taken near sunset showing all the beautiful fall colors and the sun reflecting off the water. We are really looking forward to your wedding, Doug and Molly!

We took Kira's Senior portraits about a month ago. She had our premier session which includes studio portraits along with several outdoor locations and dusk and night time portraits. Since she is very trendy and artsy, we created her portraits with a fashion photography look. Since Kira is an artist herself, she was very easy going and up for all our ideas and understood our creative vision. Have a great Senior year, Kira!
